Pokemon GO was just the beginning for the augmented reality pioneers at Niantic. In 2022, Niantic looked to ADVOC8 to help produce their inaugural 2-day Lightship Summit to bring together the community of developers at the forefront of AR and rally them around a shared mission: Building the real-world metaverse.
Following the launch, ADVOC8 and Niantic then went on to collaborate in creating an event experience that showcased the potential of AR to bridge the gap between the real world and the digital world. To make that connection, we created an engaging space to host 26 sessions and 62 speakers on 3 custom built stages. Six points of interest were also built to look like everyday objects and placed around the summit to trigger AR experiences using Lightship’s developer kit and visual positioning system. The experiences showcased use cases for AR in health, art, music and gaming. At the after party, we transported attendees back to a 80s-inspired Friday night with their friends, when augmented reality was something that only existed in sci-fi tales – complete with pinball machines – to capture that spirit of creativity and imagination and invigorate our quests to dive headfirst into creating our future, the real-world metaverse.
